BOLOGNESE News Roundup 20/7/17

We can report on several shows this week. Firstly, Windsor Championship Dog Show in the lovely Home Park, where Jane Towers girl Tumbril Tennessee Honey took BB, under breed specialist Kathy Begg.  Best Puppy was Hilary McCARDELL’s Phendelle Flamingo Fling and Best Veteran Figgarony Andromache At Belstown a 9-year old bitch owned by Melanie Thomas. Windsor was a lovely summer show, a little warm, but there was quite a bit of shade. Winners were given little gifts from the judge which was a nice touch, Bolognese badges and fridge magnets. We didn’t have to wait too long, the poor Coton people were after us, so for once we were lucky. There was an icecream van right by our ring which helped with the enjoyment!

Carol Lees won her class with Lafford Milky Bar Kid and so did Jacky Johnson with Biancopale Shining Star, Karen Golden with Kaylo V H Balgzand (Imp), Carol Mulligan with Donocielo Cassia, Brian & Chris Thatcher with Devonia’s Montecristo and Caroline Cockwell with Devonia’s Lucca. So, FAB day for so many club members, well done. Full results from Windsor can be found by CLICKING HERE.

East of England Championship Show took place just over a week after Windsor, where our judge was Dr G Curr. Jane Towers bitch TUMBRIL TENNESSEE HONEY was on a roll as at East of England she took top honours with  BOB. It was also lovely to see the BD award going to STROPHAIR LUIGI owned by MRS Bette HOPKINS. Its also fabulous as Luigi is looking so good at 9-years old!

BP at East of England was STAREXPRESS ITALIAN DREAM  owned and shown by Greta Franklin. Also at East of England IR CH LITTLE WHITE WONDER OTHELLO MATTEO owned in partnership by Virginia Dowty won his class and so also did Deana Mee’s SWEETHING DREAM LADY AT LYCKALOTTE an import from Hungery. Best veteran was multi champion BOLOGNESE STAR AUDREY AT HAVANESE STARS  owned and shown by Virginia DOWTY. Full results from East of England can be found by CLICKING HERE.

On the OPEN show front, Carol & Becky Mulligan represented the breed at Kingston Canine Association were all breeds are given classes. The Bolognese judge Tom Isherwood awarded Donocielo Cassia BOB.

There are only 11 entries (10 dogs) at Paignton Championship Show on the 8th of August, under T Ball. It’s a difficult one as there are only 4 classes and the puppy & junior are mixed, no Post Grad class either.  Plus it’s a Tuesday, not the best day for people to go to a show. 28 entries for LEEDS Championship show on the 23rd of July under Derfel Owen, so that should be a good show, good luck everybody.

Entries close for the British Bolognese Club OPEN Show in conjunction with City of Birmingham Championship show on the 29th of July and its paper only entries. We have 16 classes under Mr T M Evans (Citegan). Judging starts at 10.

Animal Genetics UK in Cornwall UK have just started offering a canine prcd PRA test from a blood sample or mouth swab. You can easily order swabs or cheek brushes from their website, download a form and use your credit card to pay the fee of £55. The service is fast and easy to use. Awareness is growing for testing Bolognese for the prcd mutation of PRA and you can find out more by joining the Facebook group PRA in Bolognese. Some people are sharing their results on the Facebook page. Annual physical eye examinations are still required for breeding purposes, as there most probably are other forms of PRA affecting our breed for which we do not have DNA tests currently available.

BREEDER & FOUNDER MEMBER Belstown Bolognese. I live with 3 Bolognese, show and breed and live in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. I also work part time as a support worker. I originally chose the breed for my daughter to show as a Junior Handler, but she has grown up and number of dogs have grown too! I originally trained as a Veterinary Nurse, as well as managing large show/breeding/boarding & quarantine kennels. I progressed to the commercial sector in sales and marketing of pet products, including running my own PR agency for pet related companies. Along with a few other like minded enthusiasts, we started this club in August 2015 as we felt the breed needed an information centre and a friendly group where people could share their views and learn more about the breed.
