Hotham Park Picnic

A few of us got together on the 30th July in the lovely Hotham Park. Club members Norma Hemmings (with her 2 Affenpinschers), Hannah Woods (with Rosie the agility Bolognese) and Annie Redmond (with husband Dave and Bolognese Teddy) joined Melanie Thomas, Candy & Lily (mother and daughter Bolognese) for an informal picnic, chat and a few laughs. Polly & Alfie and Rosemary and Genie (the Westie) were welcome guests. Because we knew numbers were going to be low, we suggested that those coming a long distance left it for another day when there would be a bigger get together.

The park was busy with dogs and people and many came over for a chat about the dogs. The weather was ideal, not too hot and no rain! The dogs were free running around for most of the time, but they mainly stayed within sight of us. We had a raffle and raised £12 for club funds.

The next MEET UPS with be Southsea Common (Portsmouth) and in The South East, dates and details will follow soon. We are also arranging a MEET UP in the North West of England. There are more pictures of the Hotham Park picnic on our Facebook page. We now have over 400 people liking our Facebook page, so it is great to know that our posts are getting seen by so many enthusiasts of the breed. If you are interested in coming to one of our club MEET UPS or you would like to help arrange one near to you, email us on, we would love to hear from you. The MEET UPS are for all Bolognese lovers whether you are a member of the club or not. We have done walks, cafe lunches and pub lunches so far, just make sure it’s a dog friendly venue!

FOUNDER MEMBER Belstown Bolognese. I live with 3 Bolognese and live in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. I own 3 Bolognese and show the youngest Harry. I also work part time as a support worker. I originally chose the breed for my daughter to show as a Junior Handler, but she has grown up and number of dogs have grown too! I originally trained as a Veterinary Nurse, as well as managing large show/breeding/boarding & quarantine kennels. I progressed to the commercial sector in sales and marketing of pet products, including running my own PR agency for pet related companies. Along with a few other like minded enthusiasts, we started this club in August 2015 as we felt the breed needed an information centre and a friendly group where people could share their views and learn more about the breed, so I started The Bolognese Dog Club UK. I have bred 7 litters, but don't breed currently.
