Day Out at Richmond Dog Show 2025

This was my last show of the year, not too far from home and luckily the weather cheered up (torrential rain the day before). The show is held at Loseley Park near Guildford where there is a large Tudor manor house which appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Losele. The house was rebuild in the 1560’s for Elizabeth I as she said the existing house was too small for her to visit. Loseley Bakery is nestled in the Loseley Park Estate where they produce Yogurts, ice cream and other produce. Interesting, but basically the show is in a big field with rings, marques and trade stands.

Richmond is a benched show, so we had places to be, rather than a free for all. This show is due to move in 2027 to a new venue further north, which is not good for me living on the South Coast (one less show for me sadly)! There was an entry of 16 with no absentees which is not too bad for the breed and our judge was Marion Sargent. The ground was a bit rough in places and still a little damp from the recent weather, but its the same for everybody. We didn’t have to wait too long and catching up with people and their dogs passes the time as does a cup of coffee. It was my Harry’s first show as a Veteran (over 7-years old), time passes so quickly. The Veteran Class was mixed dog and bitch and it was the first class for the breed.

Harry’s litter sister Amy won the Veteran class, Harry was second and Seraphina was placed 3rd (also closely related to my 2 Bolognese). I did enter the Veteran Stakes, but they clashed, so I couldn’t get over to that ring without stress I didn’t need, so I left it. It was nice to see puppy Arkadian Portofino ‘Fin’ & Arkadian Alfredo Ferrari ‘Dino’ and their progress as they are my Lily’s grandsons. Fin did really well as a youngster and won the Best Puppy in Breed award.

Well done to Hilary McAdell’s with Phendelle Eida Avril May who was Best Bitch & Best of Breed. Deana Mee was at the show to see the dog she bred Lyckalotte Enzo Ferrari At Arkadian (owned by Diane & Mark Whateley) taking Best Dog. Reserve Best Dog went to Brian & Chris Thatcher’s import from Hungery Kobanyai Pelyhes Odin With Devonia. Mark looked very smart in his waistcoat with coordinated colours and he had to work hard as his partner Diane was tied up with family matters. Jenny Hegarty lives near to the show, so she visited for an enjoyed ‘Bolognese Fix’. I managed to take a variety of pictures to share on the club’s website and Facebook Page to be shared with people around The World.

After the showing, I sat with Carol & Dennis Mulligan for a while in the sun and ate my pack lunch. Lily’s litter sister Mia usually attends the shows as a spectator and its great to see her looking so well at the ripe old age of nearly 15 (long may that continue).

It was a successful day and I headed home quite happy – until my car broke down on the M25 and I had to be towed back home, but that’s another story 🙂
