22 Bolognese for Canal MEET UP

We had our biggest group of Bolognese so far at the club MEET UP on Sunday 19th of May 2019. We met at 11am at The Fleur De Lys picturesque pub on the banks of the Stratford Canal in Lowsonford. This was a truly amazing spot and perfect for such an event. The garden was vast with lots of seating, the canal boats drifted slowly by, there was room for the dogs to run in a nearby field and we could take our time chatting, eating and having a bit of fun.

We took a walk down the side of the canal, before settling outside for a good few hours, chatting about dogs and getting to know each other and our Bolognese. The food was really good and so was the service. We took £31 through a raffle, first prize was won by Ann Bell and second by Annie Redman. The Prettiest Girl Bolognese was won by Amy Whateley and the Handsomest Boy by Teddy Costello. We also ran a Best Hair Do (won by Boo & Jane) and Waggiest Tail won by Marco Thatcher.

Jane Towers donated some luxury cosmetics collections for the owners of the winners of the Girl & Boy competition which were well received. Gift packs and toys were won by all the lovely winners. We asked some people sitting near by to judge our competitions (as they had 2 dogs). Our 4 co-opted judges were really fun guys, shortlisting in some cases before making up their final minds.

It was good to meet people who we don’t normally see at shows. Ann & Steve Bell from Staffordshire came with Izzie their 7-year old girl who had a really amazing coat. Ann said that although Izzie is 7-years old, she has never seen another Bolognese – well she definitely has now!

Little Teddy came from Basingstoke with owners Annie & Dave and their Cavapoo called Poppy. It was also great to see Debbie & Mark Taylor with Bear & Tiger as we haven’t seen them at shows now for a few years. Cindy & Loz Costello have supported our MEET UPS before and they always brighten up the day with their two Moorhay Bolognese Teddy & Petal. Tracey & Nick are new to the breed and they obviously adore their Bolognese puppy Archie, who was not phased by all the hassle and bussle of the day. Muriel brought her boy Luca, who is 1-year old, he was well behaved amongst all the other male dogs. Chris & Brian Thatcher, Joy & Normal Hough, Jane Towers & myself brought 10 show dogs between us. We had an age range from 6-months right through to almost 11-years old, with different sizes and coat types. Lots of people came over to talk to us and asked about the breed and the club.

Luckily the weather was kind to us as well, so we couldn’t of been happier with everything. Thanks goes to Diane & Mark Whateley for finding this great venue and organising the food, walk and seating. Also thanks to Diane & Mark for bringing their gorgeous Bolognese Max, Bella, Cara & Amy, who wore Diane’s lovely homemade BellaBows hair clips.

The next Bolognese MEET UP is on the 2nd of June in Chiswick Gardens West London, CLICK HERE for all the information.
