SHOW REPORT Late 2023/early 2024
compiled by Melanie Thomas
I hope you enjoy seeing pictures from recent shows and hearing about peoples’ days and achievements in breed classes, any variety, stakes and rare breeds. Crufts is very soon now and we will make a bumper report for you. We hope to see as many of you as possible at the NEC on the 7th of March. We have a small gift for all of our lovely Bolognese Dog Club members who manage to get to Crufts, so make sure you come and see me at the Bolognese Benches. Our Crufts Judge is Mrs M Petersen from Denmark and we are in HALL 4 RING 23 after the Pekingese (of which there are 81). Since our last report, our members have been to Manchester, LKA, Midland Counties and South Wales KC, we have also been well represented at OPEN SHOWS with fabulous results.

Unfortunately we couldn’t stay for the Toy Group.

24th February 2024. Had a lovely day at Three Counties Pekingese and Cavalier Open show. Bolognese Judge was Irene Robb. Arkadian Alfredo Ferrari (Dino) was 1st in Puppy, Best Puppy in Breed and 1st AV Puppy. Lyckalotte Holly at Arkadian (Holly) was 1st in Post Grad, Reserve Best of Breed and 2nd AV Junior. Lyckalotte Enzo Ferrari at Arkadian (Enzo) was 1st Open Dog and 2nd AV Open. Belstown Beloved Amee at Arkadian (Amy) was 2nd in Open Bitch
18th February 2024. Gloucester and District Canine Society Open show. It was a very long day and we didn’t leave until after 18:30. Results as follows LYCKALOTTE ENZO FERRARI AT ARKADIAN: 1st AV Rare Breed Open & Best AV Rare Breed, 3rd AV Memorial Open Stakes, Reserve AVNSC Toy Open. LYCKALOTTE HOLLY AT ARKADIAN: 2nd AV Rare Breed Post Grad, 3rd AVNSC Toy Post Grad, Reserve AV junior Stakes. ARKADIAN ALFREDO FERRARI: 2nd AV Rare Breed Junior, 3rd AVNSC Toy Junior, shortlisted in a large entry in AV Puppy Stakes. It was stressful as the show moved the toy judging forward by about 2-hours, so we were rushed to prepare our dogs. The AVNSC Judge was Ian Gabriel and other classes judged by Jenny Miller.
10th February 2024. South Wales Kennel Association Open Show. There were no Bolognese Classes so we entered dogs in the 3 AVNSC (Any Variety Not Separately Classified) Toy classes under Judge Glenn Robb. Despite there being a number of other breeds entered we were amazed when Bolognese triumphed, winning every class.
Arkadian Alfredo Ferrari (Dino): 1st Puppy & Best Puppy
Lyckalotte Holly at Arkadian (Holly): 1st Graduate
Lyckalotte Enzo Ferrari (Enzo): 1st Open & Best AVNSC
Arkadian Alfredo Ferrari (Dino) performed exceptionally well for a 6 month old in the Any Variety Puppy Stakes, where he was the smallest in the ring, surprising us by getting Reserve place under judge Steve Atkinson.
14th January 2024. A long and tiring day at Redditch and District Canine Society Open Show. Under Hayley MCCallum, Holly was second in Junior, Amy was 1st in Limit and the star was Enzo who got 1st in Open and Best of Breed. Enzo went on to also get VHC in the Jane Theron Memorial Open Dog Stakes under Toni Westcott-Smith. All rare breed BOB’s competed for Best Rare Breed in Show under Lois Wilson who was very good with the dogs and encouraged the audience to applause each one as they circled the ring. As she awarded the first place rosette she announced that had she had a reserve rosette it would have gone to Enzo.
6th January 2024. We squeezed in a show while having a weekend away. At Taunton and District Open Show. They had Bolognese classes and Holly was given Reserve Best Of Breed under judge Richard Gunn.
Happy New Year! We started 2024 with another show yesterday. Coventry Ladies Kennel Society had no Bolognese classes but out of 35 AVNSC entries 3 of them were Bolognese which included Holly and Enzo. We also took Dino for the experience even though he is still too young to enter. The judge was Julie Baldwin. Holly got 3rd place in Junior and Enzo won a very respectable 3rd place in a strong Open class.
The Keith Macgregor Memorial stakes had 65 entries which included only two of the Toy breeds and some very stiff competition. Enzo was a little superstar and won VHC (and £10). The judge (David Bell), later praised his movement. We are very proud of our little boy .
17th December 2023. Birmingham and District Toy Dog Show was a small friendly show at Sports Connection near Coventry with a nice festive atmosphere. Small entry for Steve Bennett who gave the dogs a thorough going over before choosing Enzo as 1st in Open. Enzo also was VHC in a competitive Open Stakes Class before posing for photos in Santa’s Sleigh.
30th December 2023. We had an early start today to get to Luton Canine Association Open Show. Held in the KC Building at Stoneleigh and over 2-days. It was well organised and the venue spacious and warm. No breed classes for Bolognese so Holly and Enzo were entered in AVNSC (Any Variety Not Separately Classified) Toy under judge Mark Cocozza. Holly got 2nd place in Junior Dog/Bitch while Enzo got 1st place in Open Dog/Bitch going on to win Best AVNSC.
3rd December 2023. Enzo was also shortlisted from a large entry in the Fosse Data Systems Open Stakes (Hound/Utility/Toy) Toy Dog Society of Wales. Mark took Enzo who got Best of Breed, Reserve in AV (Any Variety) Not Bred by Exhibitor and VHC in the AV Memorial Stakes.
30th October 2023. Despite rain the night before, it stayed dry for Spire Toy Dog Society Open Show. It is a lovely venue and we won £5 on the ring number lucky drawer together with a handful of raffle prizes. In the Breed Classes under Peter Moorby (Swandown). Holly was 2nd in Special Yearling Dog/Bitch. Enzo, sadly not feeling his best, was 1st in Open Dog/Bitch and Reserve Best in Breed. He then went on to get 2nd in AV Open Dog/Bitch and 4th in the Memorial Open Stakes under judge Carol Lees (Lafford). Dino had a little practice walk around an empty ring and performed like a star. Hopefully he’ll keep his confidence and do well once he’s old enough to be entered.
21st October 2023. Great day at 3 Counties Peke and Cavalier show at Churchdown, Gloucester. Holly 2nd Post Grad and 1st AV Junior. Enzo 1st Open Dog, Best of Breed, 1st AV Open and shortlisted for Best in Show. Nice to be back in the ring after a month off and also nice to see all the other exhibitors and their beautiful dogs.
