Pub MEET UP Reigate May 2026

For the 4th Year, we met at The Plough pub in Leigh near Reigate in Surrey. Its a lovely pub, by a village green and a church with plenty of parking. I left a bit later than I should so arrived 10 minutes late. When I arrived a few people were already there sat outside the pub with their dogs looking nice and relaxed. The weather was ideal, dry, clouds and not too hot. The landlady always looks after us at this venue, serving drinks and food and keeping separate bills. There were umbrellas to provide cover.

Douglas Warner was at his first Bolognese MEET UP with his Bolognese Julie, who originated in Hungry. Douglas came all the way from Norfolk to be with us. Julie was an adorable Bolognese with a gentle friendly nature. Julie was looking great fresh from the groomers. Douglas has a second Bolognese, currently in Hungry with his wife.

Paul, Neelu and Kush Irvine were already there with Gianna & Mini looking pretty. It is always great to see Kush, who is also devoted to the dogs. Soon to arrive was John Twaites with his wife Karen and daughter Karina, not to forget Bella their Bolognese who is easy going and sociable

It was lovely that Jennie Hegarty chose to spend time with us on her actual birthday (and a special one at that). We all sang Happy Birthday to Jennie and the pub produced a little cake for her with a candle. Jennie and her husband Geoff have 2 Bolognese Fizz & Fabio who also looked great with short white coats and lovely faces. It was good to see Jennie’s Fabio looking so well as he has been under specialist vets and on medication for some time now.

Deana Mee brought Molly a 4 year old female Bolognese, who was well adjusted and mixed with everybody. I brought Harry & his mother Lily who is now 15 and a half. My 2 dogs were the most unsettled and noisy, probably because didn’t like being in a buggy. Lily thinks everybody is going to give her treats, but I didn’t want her to be sick in the hire car, which they were the day before after being given treats at a dog show! When Harry & Lily are together they protect each other and can be noisy and reactive.

There was a family in the pub with a Bichon, so we asked their son to judge our fun classes, which he was happy to do. Prettiest Girl was Julie, Best hairdo was Gianna and Best Veteran Fizz, all won prizes. We also had a raffle/tombola and everybody one a prize. Douglas won first prize and he chose the Bolognese Canvass Bag, other prizes included, shampoo, toys and treats.

After lunch, we had a catch up and a chat about our dogs, their health and personalities. Jennie had to get away first, so we quickly managed a group picture before they had to go. Thanks to John for organizing another successful MEET UP, see you all next year.
